Signs and Symptoms of Genital Herpes

Signs and symptoms of diseases are vital for their treatment. Without the appearance of signs and symptoms, it is very difficult for to you know that you have contracted a certain disease, so that you can start treatment. But diseases such as genital herpes are more dangerous than others precisely because of the lack of symptoms and the delay in expression of signs. In fact most people with genital herpes, don’t know are not even aware of their problem due to this reason!

While there is a lack of signs or symptoms in many cases, in others these may be quite pronounced. These signs appear within two weeks of transmission of the herpes simplex virus or HSV-2. With proper medication they can go away within the next four weeks. Some of the commonly known signs and symptoms of genital herpes are:

Small blisters and bumps, which are red in color or open sores. Both these vesicles and ulcers appear in the genital area.

Flu-like symptoms such as fever and swollen glands.
Painful itches in the genital areas, buttocks and inner thighs.

It may so happen that the symptoms are so mild, that you do not even suspect something as serious as herpes. But the signs are not so mild always, because in some cases there might be an appearance of ulcers which ooze blood or pus.

In women these appear in the vaginal region, the anus and the cervix while in men these sores or ulcers can appear on the penis, scrotum, anus and even inside the urethra. While they may not be visible at first (until they are full-blown ulcers) there are some signs which should alert you to the possibility of having contracted genital herpes.

If you are suddenly experiencing difficulty or pain in urinating or sense a painful tenderness in your genital area, you may want to seek medical opinion without delay. Only that will help you know whether it is herpes or any other problem. During the initial outbreak things such as high fever (sudden and unaccompanied with other symptoms of common cold) and swollen lymph nodes in your groin may also come as warning sign.

An outbreak of genital herpes can be followed by several recurrences in the same year or in the more distant future. Each of these recurrences may be punctuated with different signs and symptoms and so if you have suffered an initial outbreak of genital herpes, keep a watch out for the problem returning.

However the good news is that studying the signs and symptoms of herpes caused by HSV-2, tends to decrease in importance because the outbreaks usually become milder as the years go by. They are usually triggered by external catalysts such as stress, illness, surgery or erratic sexual activities.

But the reason why you should be wary of the signs and symptoms of herpes is because genital herpes can spread even when there are no visible indications of this problem. You can both transmit and contract the disease without knowledge of your actions and this is what makes herpes so dangerous.Find out about genital herpes treatments!Dermisil, H-Away, Dynamiclear, Herpeset.
